The Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society based at Sherwood Observatory, Coxmoor Road, Sutton in Ashfield, NG17 5LF, will be holding a “solar viewing day” on Saturday 28 July between the hours of 10am and 4pm (which may be extended if weather permits). A second day is being planned for Saturday 18 August. Come and view our nearest star across 93 million miles of space safely through our specially filtered telescopes. Depending on how “active” the Sun is, there may be a chance to see sun spots, prominences and other solar activity. You will be able to listen to the “sounds of the Sun” through our radio astronomy equipment and probably detect incoming meteors. There will be a number of “Sun” themed talks throughout the day. Free factsheets will be issued to take away. Booking is not required, but please note that all under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. Free admission (but donations will be most welcome). Limited onsite parking. Disabled access, toilets, and refreshments. All viewing is weather dependent. Log onto our website www.sherwood-observatory.org.uk for further details. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter.
